Bhutan Permit
Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Bhutan. However, they must obtain an Entry Permit upon arrival, which serves as official authorization to enter and travel within Bhutan.
🛂 Entry Permit Process for Indian Tourists
Required Documents:
A valid Indian passport with at least six months’ validity, or
A Voter Identity Card issued by the Election Commission of India.
For Minors (below 18 years):
If not possessing a passport, an original birth certificate in English is required.
Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Points of Entry:
By Air: Entry Permits are issued upon arrival at Paro International Airport.
By Land: Permits can be obtained at the Immigration Office in Phuentsholing, located on the Indo-Bhutan border opposite Jaigaon, West Bengal.
Permit Validity:
The Entry Permit typically allows travel within Thimphu and Paro.
To visit other regions, a Special Area Permit must be obtained from the Department of Immigration in Thimphu.
💰 Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
Effective from September 2023, Indian tourists are required to pay a Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per person per night. This fee contributes to Bhutan’s efforts in promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.
📌 Additional Tips
Accommodation: While not mandatory, having confirmed hotel bookings can facilitate the entry process.
Travel Insurance: Recommended to cover unforeseen medical or travel-related expenses.
Currency: The Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR), and both currencies are accepted.
