The easiest way is through a Bhutanese tour operator or local host or can be done directly by Indian Tourist, who submits the application online using Bhutan’s Immigration system. 

 

 

Step-by-step: Advance permit process

Step 1: Confirm your travel basics

Decide:

  • Entry date and exit date

  • Entry point (air or road)

  • Where you will stay (hotel names help)

Keep your plan simple. Changes can delay processing.

 

Step 2: Prepare your documents

You will usually need:

  • Passport (6+ months validity) or original Voter ID

  • Recent passport-size photo

  • For children below 18: passport or birth certificate

Immigration may request additional documents during assessment.


Step 3: Apply through a Bhutanese tour operator or host

Your operator or host will submit the permit application online through Bhutan’s Immigration system.

In some cases, Immigration requirements may include a letter or support from a local host or counterpart.



Step 4: Pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)

Indian tourists pay INR 1,200 per person per night. Your operator or host will guide you on payment.



Step 5: Receive the permit approval

Step 6: Enter Bhutan and complete entry formalities

The Entry Permit typically covers Paro and Thimphu. For other areas, you may need an additional permit from Immigration in Thimphu.
